Obama Appointee Recommends More Vigorous Atrocities

If there is one element of received political wisdom afloat today, it's the belief that George W. Bush and his minions are torturers and war criminals who deliberately inflicted pointless death on thousands of Americans, countless millions of innocent Iraqis, and no doubt the odd baby seal, whereas, on the other hand, the advent of Barack Obama is an ironclad guarantee of an end to all American torturing and needless wars, as well as a promise of general sweetness and light all 'round.

We are seeing a few cracks in this pretty edifice of late, from Obama's astonishing patience in closing the Guantanamo Bay terrorist prison to his shocking adoption of Bush's belief that enemy combatants can be held without trial.  During the campaign, one got the impression that Inauguration Day would feature a reenactment of the Storming of the Bastille as poor innocent harmless Muslims were hauled from their dank oubliettes and set free to romp and frolic in the American suburbs - but no.

Needless to say, the usual suspects on the left are beginning to wonder if perhaps they were sold a bill of goods.  Could it be?

Wonder no more.  Say what you will about George W. Bush, it was always his intent to spread freedom and democracy all 'round the world, by force if necessary.

This didn't always work out as planned, to say the least, and it's fair to wonder whether the game was entirely worth the candle; but his constantly reiterated goal was to allow each man and woman, no matter where they be, a voice in their own government, and freedom from tyrannical oppression.  Critique the results as you may, his attempted actions tended to be true to his words.

True to his words, President Barack Hussein Obama has brought, via his appointees, Change in spades.  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for example, is putting first things first with the Chinese.  According to CNN, in a recent interview, she said:

Successive administrations and Chinese governments have been poised back and forth on these issues, and we have to continue to press them. But our pressing on those issues can't interfere with the global economic crisis, the global climate change crisis, and the security crisis... It is essential that the United States and China have a positive, cooperative relationship. [emphasis added]

For all those who protest for the freedom of Tibet, Falun Gong, incarcerated Christians, or other victims of Chinese Communism, our new administration says: "Too darn bad!  The stability of the almighty dollar is far more important than ongoing crimes against humanity."

Surprising, is it not?  Isn't it supposed to be those greedy, bloodsucking Republicans who value money over lives?

Actually, for all Hillary's back-burnering of human rights issues, at least human rights are still on her stove.  Comes now Chas Freeman, the newly appointed chairman of the National Council of Intelligence.

Let's hear what he has to say on the subject of Chinese human-rights abuses.  In an emailed letter of a few years back posted by bloggers, he wrote the following:

I find the dominant view in China about [the famous 1989 Tiananmen Square incident] very plausible, i.e. that the truly unforgivable mistake of the Chinese authorities was the failure to intervene on a timely basis to nip the demonstrations in the bud, rather than -- as would have been both wise and efficacious -- to intervene with force when all other measures had failed to restore domestic tranquility to Beijing and other major urban centers in China. In this optic, the Politburo's response to the mob scene at "Tian'anmen" stands as a monument to overly cautious behavior on the part of the leadership, not as an example of rash action.  For myself, I side on this -- if not on numerous other issues -- with Gen. Douglas MacArthur.  I do not believe it is acceptable for any country to allow the heart of its national capital to be occupied by dissidents intent on disrupting the normal functions of government, however appealing to foreigners their propaganda may be. [emphasis added]

Contemplate this, o ye members of Code Pink and wearers of "Bush Lied, Thousands Died" T-shirts - which are about due for a wash, by the way.  The chairman of the National Council of Intelligence, appointed by President Obama to advise him on intelligence matters, has a harsh criticism for the Chinese Communists regarding their 1989 slaughter in Tiananmen Square - you remember the famous photo of the young man (now disappeared into a gulag) facing down a column of tanks?

2,600 people died in this confrontation, countless more were imprisoned, and an incipient popular demand for liberty was monster-mashed into the ground.  Yet Mr. Freeman, now a powerful Obama intelligence appointee, says that China's grave mistake was "overly cautious behavior" in dealing with the unhappy masses.

They were just too nice!  If only they'd called forth their inner Stalin, things would have turned out better all round, quoth he.

One wonders if Janet Reno will be brought back to command Army tank brigades on American soil once again.  Bush, a murderous dictator?  He's got nothing on Obama's appointees.

Wimpy and pusillanimous, limp-wristed Bush who freely permitted thousands of protesters to occupy city centers calling for his removal!  Anarchists had better think twice before protesting against Obama, for we know the advice he'll be getting: Fire up the tanks!
